Spring Line Design Architecture + Engineering integrates architectural design and structural engineering to deliver the total package to their clients. Their portfolio includes a wide variety of project types, from educational and community projects to healthcare facilities, which keeps their day-to-day work varied and interesting. They also are active in their community. In 2014 they sponsored the LeadingAge New York Art Competition and Exhibition, and participated in the innovative food drive CANstruction competition (pictured above).
Whether it’s giving small projects the individual attention they deserve, or managing larger projects without losing sight of the client’s objectives, SLD manages projects from concept through construction. So when it comes to knowing every detail of a project, they are a team of experts. What they were searching for, however, was a big picture view of how their budgets were progressing and visibility into their project’s profitability. We asked Founder, Kristin Knickerbocker, to tell us about her team’s experience finding and implementing 10,000ft Plans at her company.
Before 10,000ft Plans, SLD was using web-based time tracking and project management software to store project information, but it lacked user-friendly budget-tracking capability. They combined that with a custom-built spreadsheet, which worked for a while, but eventually required too much time and effort to keep up to date.
After a thorough evaluation of nearly 30 different project and resource management applications, SLD chose 10,000ft Plans as the best fit for their company. They were particularly attracted to the ability to see an up-to-date snapshot of a project’s status at any given point, and were quick to make use of the reporting functionality to get reports on a variety of data sets.
It took SLD approximately 6 weeks to develop a process and to integrate past project data into 10,000ft Plans. It took the team only one handout and a meeting before it was on board. As a team, they now have a greater understanding of project budgets and are able to make proactive decisions that improve the outcome of their projects.
